[...] It’s official (according to Visit Scotland): Scotland has some of the best sea kayaking in all of Europe. Of course, we have known this for some time. We began with Doug Cooper and George Reid’s Scottish Sea Kayaking, Fifty Great Sea Kayak Voyages and soon we will have filled in all the gaps with guides to the Northern Isles of Orkney and Shetland, the Outer Hebrides, Argyll and the South West, the Northwest Highlands and then the rests of the Highlands & Island. That’s not forgetting Simon Willis’ Scottish Sea Kayak Trail, the first national trail of its kind. Enough of blowing our own trumpet, Adventure Scotland have put together a very nice fact sheet on sea kayaking in Scotland (click on the image below for a download link). [...]

Hello Fiona congratulations!! :o)

Thank you to everyone for all the great suggestions.

For those of you who know Scottish boundaries, I know that Ardnamurchan is not in Argyll, neither is Loch Sunart, Loch Teacuis, the Sound of Mull and the Lands of Morvern and Appin nor Loch Linnhe and the Corran Narrows and Loch Leven and the Ballachulish narrows. But, rest assured, they are all in the book!

Well done to Fiona for the winning entry. Thanks to everybody who contributed. There was plenty to consider to hunt down a pithy title and we've settled upon:

Argyll & the South West, Ardnamurchan to the Solway Firth by Sea Kayak
by Douglas Wilcox (ISBN 978-1-906095-19-2)

Send us your details so that we can deliver a copy to you when it's ready Fiona. I'm afraid that's still some way off, but you can be sure of being among the first to receive a copy. Keep an eye out on pesdapress.com and here for news of our future sea kayak guidebooks.

Regards, Peter

Gosh some cracking suggestions!

This part of Scotland was the first to be called Scotland, after it was colonised by the Scotti from Ireland. It was also the route through which Scotland was converted to Christianity by a series of saints: St Ninian, St Columba, St Marnock, St Cormac, St Molaise, St Kenneth etc. (All with their islands!)

I wondered about:

Isles and Firths of the Saints - exploring SW Scotland by sea kayak

More from <a href="http://www.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=49881" rel="nofollow">UKseakayakguidebook</a>

Pete
South West Scotland- Dougie's Delights!

MarkR
West Coast Sea Kayaking I, II and III

Hmmm … dividing the Scottish coast up into a sub-series of four books would be a real possibility … but wouldn't fit in so well with our coverage of the rest of the UK coastline (the naming for England is already getting difficult!)
